If your back breaks out in pimples and blackheads, you might try over-the-counter treatments to get rid of it. But if your treatments don't work effectively on your male skin, you probably need to make a few changes in your life, including what you do during and after your work outs. Try the tips below to see if they help eliminate your back acne.

Wear Sweat Wicking Clothing

If you don't wear sweat wicking shirts during your workouts, you may want to do so now. Although sweating is an excellent way to cool down your body, it can make acne worse in some people. Sweat allows your body to release bacteria and other substances. But if you wear shirts that don't absorb moisture, these substances may clog up your pores.

Clothing made of cotton or wicking material can prevent sweat from drying on your skin and aggravating or causing blemishes. Be sure to wear shirts that fit loosely around your chest and back. Tight clothing may take longer to absorb your sweat.

In addition, change and wash your shirts and other clothing right after you wear them. Wearing moist or sweaty clothing not only smells, it might trigger other skin inflammations, such as bacterial infections. If you simply can't wear shirts when you work out, dry your back with an absorbent cotton towel to help prevent further inflammations in your skin.

Take Showers Right After Your Workouts

Taking a shower right after you exercise is another good way to control your back acne. Showering removes toxins and bacteria from your skin that could potentially clog up your pores. You may also want to use a mild soap to soothe your skin during the shower. Try to avoid cleansers that contain harsh chemicals and fragrances, or products that dry out your skin. Drying out your skin too much can irritate it.

Also, drink plenty of fluids after your shower. Water helps replace the vitamins and minerals you lose when you sweat. Certain vitamins can keep your skin healthy, including vitamin C. Vitamin C can help fight skin conditions like cystic acne, which can be both painful and dangerous.

If none of the changes above clear up or control your back acne, consult with a dermatologist. A skin specialist can examine your male skin and prescribe treatments that work specifically for it. Your skin is thicker and oilier than a woman's skin, so regular OTC products might not work well to clear it up.
